A New Journey Towards Paradise Philippines....

The 3^rd Philippine Seo Contest has been launched by the SEO Ph Founder Marc Macalua last July; it depicts the “Bayanihan” of Pinoys. The contestant’s main objective is to rank on 3 major search engines (Google.com, Yahoo.com, and MSN.com) for the keyword “Paradise Philippines”. The twist of the contest is that it follows a bayanihan point system in judging who will won and participants has 3 chances (2 checkpoint dates –September and November and the Finals on January), And with these a new door was opened to test my skills as a SEO.

Team Pazuway was formed with my SEO friends and buddies (Joiz, Gurlalien and Extreme_driver) we will take this New Journey towards Paradise Philippines to test our skills, conquer Search engines and to enjoy life.

Bayanihan for SEO....

Bayanihan is a Filipino term taken from the word bayan, referring to a nation, town or community. The whole term bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective. And this is the main concept of the upcoming 3rd Philippine SEO contest.

Today while lurking around to one of my Filipino Seo Community - SeoPH Forum, I found a thread about the 3rd Philippine SEO contest. And without second thought I read through it and followed the link going to Marc Macalua's Blog announcing for the upcoming event. After the success of the 130,000 Isulong SEOPH and the 300,000 Ituloy ang Sulong contest, there is no doubt that this contest will also be successful. Marc also said that it will have a different twist since the participant needs to be a team of SEO.

Just can't wait for the details of the contest...

Google Analytics - Hip and Hot Interface

I think it has been a year since Google launched its own web service to measure websites performance, Google Analytics. It started as a beta wherein webmasters will wait for invites to create a Google Analytics account. And it all started in a bang.

And just today I received an email announcing the launched of the new interface of Google Analytics. As of the moment the people from Google Analytics are still doing the transition of their existing accounts and getting ready for new accounts to use the new interface.

The new interface is much easier to use. And with it’s new interface we can email and export reports, customize the dashboard and we can now view the trends and overtime graph.

The new Google analytics interface will definitely rock our worlds and a job well done to Google staff.

To Remove or Not To Remove...

As a webmaster and SEO, I have a full control of the sites I handle/own. I can do anything with my site add this, delete this, allow this or that and I can even limit search engines on what contents or parts of my site I want them to indexed. But to remove an indexed content…Close to impossible... not anymore.

Just recently upon browsing on different blogs like Google Webmaster Central, I found out that I can remove contents that’s has been indexed by Google. To do this is to think of the type of content you want to remove then do the most appropriate approach on removing contents. Google Webmaster Help will guide us well in removing contents. And also one can also remove contents of site they don't own with the help Webpage removal request tool.

Isn't that amazing more control on our contents or is it something that can be harmful?

My first reaction was how did it happen, how and when but after a while I thought that it must be his own way of celebrating April Fool's Day.

Aprils Fool's Day is celebrated on April 1, a day of the year where people are doing practical jokes to family, friends and others. And it also celebrated on the internet.

After the awarding ceremony of Ituloy angSulong contest last Feb. 23, Mr. Marc Macalua confirmed in an email and in the Official list of SEO Philippines forum that I won the 3rd place in Yahoo ranks (T_T ranked on 1 SE only).

I want to thank Mr.Macalua in organizing the said event and building camaraderie among Filipino seo, to the sponsors and to my friends and love ones (joiz, sagbee, gurlalien, ryan, mavantooth, wildcats1369) who helped me in this journey.

And for SEO tips... well just keep on reading, researching, be open minded, don't leave the basic things behind make them as your foundation and of course believe on the things you can do.

After the long wait the results will be announce for the 2^nd SEO Contest – Ituloy angSulong. Pinoys are excited from the organizers, to the contestants and Filipinos in the field of SE optimization/internet marketing.

The Ituloy angSulong contest was organized by the SEO Philippines to promote SEO and to build camaraderie to fellow SEO specialist and enthusiasts. It was formally started last October 28, 2006 8:00pm and will officially end today February 23, 2007 8:00pm. First of all Happy Holidays and a Prosperous New Year to All...

During this season I've been lurking around different forums and friend’s blogs. And it seems like many Webmasters, Link builders and SEO are interested of buying or renting siggy space on a per month basis. This is because search engine crawlers seem to love forums and aids in building inbound links.

And today a thread caught my attention, "What's your Signature Worth?" from Digital Point (One of my favorite forums). As the thread implies it features a forum signature link calculator. The tool requires the total number of posts and the number of posts per day to compute the price per month for the signature link. I'm not sure of the formula used in calculating the worth of your precious siggy and if it is accurate but the only point is that it catch attention of many forum enthusiasts like me and specially those people who are making money out of their precious siggy,

"SEO is a MMORPG"... does it sound interesting?

A while ago a friend of mine sent me a URL of an article about SEO. The author wants to prove that SEO is just an MMORPG by discussing each point in a SEO view.

I find this article interesting because it is an analogy between SEO and MMORPG, making it easier to understand the basic concepts about SEO from one process to another.

First, let’s compare the basic principle of each. When you are “playing” SEO, you have websites, and the objective is to move up in rankings in the major search Engines. MSN, Yahoo, and Google. When you are playing a MMROPG, the objective is to move up levels with your fictional character.

He pointed out things that makes SEO an MMORPG from the characters to the environments.

And I agree that once you learned about SEO you will get addicted to learn more and improve more.

Quality Keywords Equal Quality Traffic

In the world of SEO, good keyword selection is one of the basic. It's important to communicate on your website using the terminology that your visitors use. If you use the right terminology and phrases, they will find you. If you're using the wrong terminology, then you're leaving your visitor a bit confused, a bit foggy and feeling a bit left out of it all.

Obviously you want the search engines to drive lots of traffic to your website. However, quantity should never be your first objective; quality traffic should be what you're looking for. Your goal is to optimize your pages for the keywords that bring the highest numbers of prospects.

Find the keyword phrases related to your industry that your target market is searching for. So first, find out the terms that are being used by the general public by using a tool like the Overture keyword suggestion tool.

Second make sure that the search results from the keywords you select are relevant to your industry, and then optimize your site for those phrases. Finally, measure and test those phrases so that you have the best chance of converting your search engine visitors into customers, clients, or subscribers.

The Truth and Beyond: Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO

Different techniques have emerged since the birth of search engine optimization and website promotions. And these techniques are known as “Black Hat SEO” and “White Hat SEO”. Basically this two techniques works in attaining its goal of optimizing the site for higher organic traffic and/or search engine ranks with a different approach.

White hat SEO is commonly known as an “ethical SEO”. It follows all the guidelines, terms, and conditions set forth by the search engines. On the other hand, Black Hat search engine optimization consists of techniques used to get higher search rankings that are illegal, unethical, or just in poor taste. A lot of what is known as black hat SEO actually used to be legit, but some folks went a bit overboard and now these techniques are officially bad news. Some of this includes keyword stuffing, invisible text and doorway pages.

The question that most web marketer has in mind is “Which SEO techniques works better?” Both techniques do work, but because the White Hat approach focuses on avoiding risk, the chances for long-term success are much greater. This approach seeks to give search engines what they want, which is focused informational content and clean code, while avoiding anything that search engines have chosen to penalize.

Black Hat techniques can work and sometimes achieve very good short-term results. But because these methods disregard and violate search engine guidelines, the risk of a penalty or a complete removal from a search engine database is very high. Black Hat SEO techniques sometimes do work, but only works until you get caught. At that point you may see all of your efforts and marketing investment flushed away.

If the techniques you are using on your Web site, or someone else is applying to your Web site are identified as something that should be avoided in your site promotion and design, you may be guilty of wearing a black hat.

Search engine vs. Directories: An Introduction

Many people think of search engines and directories as the same thing. In reality there is a big difference between them. The difference is pretty much unnoticeable to the eye of web searchers and it lies in how the listings are compiled.

Search engines, such as Google; http://www.google.com/ create their listings automatically. It "crawls the web" by following links from web page to web page and website to website. You don't even have to submit your site to a search engine in order for it to "find" your site and place it in the index for searching. Page titles, body copy, Meta tags, descriptions and outside links to a web site, plus many other elements, are entered in search engine’s database and play a role in how and where the site is listed within the engine.

A directory such as Yahoo!; http://www.yahoo.com/ depends on humans for entering its listings. You submit a short description of your web site to the directory and an editor reviews your submission before adding it to the index. A good site, with good content, may be reviewed more quickly than a poor site. In a directory you can "submit" your site for review, but there is no guarantee that it will be included.

Knowing the difference of search engines and directories give you an advantage in web searching and web marketing.
